Corporate Traveller has welcomed Fiji Airways’ new direct service between Nadi and Western Sydney International Airport, positioning the route as a business travel and bleisure opportunity for Western Sydney-based clients.
Route removes access barrier for Western Sydney business
The service, launching 19 March 2027, will operate three times weekly and mark the first direct connection between Fiji and Western Sydney International, adding more than 53,000 seats annually. Corporate Traveller global managing director Tom Walley said the route removed a practical barrier for corporate travellers based in the region. “It also removes a real barrier for travellers based in Western Sydney, who will no longer need to cross the city to reach the CBD airport for Pacific flights,” Walley said.
Walley said the new connection supported both trade ties and bleisure demand, where business travellers extend a trip for leisure purposes. “This is a welcome addition to the Pacific network. It’s a meaningful step for stronger business and trade ties between our two countries, and we expect local businesses to benefit,” he said. “More route options always benefit travellers, and a service like this makes it that much easier to turn a work trip into a bleisure escape.”
Fiji positioned as transit hub to North America
Walley also pointed to the route’s potential as a stopover option for travellers continuing on to the United States or Canada, given Fiji Airways’ broader network connections. “Fiji has long been a favourite holiday spot for Aussies, but it’s also a smart layover choice for anyone continuing on to the US or Canada – an easy, comfortable way to break up a long-haul trip,” he said.
For corporate travel buyers and TMCs servicing Western Sydney-based clients, the new route adds a direct Pacific option that avoids the need to route through Sydney’s main international terminal, while giving SME travellers an additional angle for extending business trips into leisure time.
