Crystalbrook Collection has unveiled a new wellness initiative designed to help Australians beat the winter blues. Available exclusively at Eléme Day Spas in Byron Bay and Cairns, ‘The Light Retreat’ is the first spa experience in Australia developed specifically to ease the emotional effects of winter, including Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
Created in consultation with renowned psychiatrist Dr Kieran Kennedy, the new treatment combines science-backed light therapy with sensory spa rituals, offering a mood-boosting and energy-restoring experience throughout July, August and September.
A holistic approach to winter wellbeing
“Seasonal changes can affect our mood and mental health, especially in southern states where shorter days and limited sunlight often leave people feeling tired, low and emotionally drained,” said Dr Kennedy.
“Experiences that combine light therapy with sensory rituals can be a powerful form of self-care in winter.”
The 105-minute treatment begins with a 60-minute ‘Autograph of Eléme’ massage using the day spa’s signature ‘Va Va Voom’ essential oil blend, featuring notes of sweet orange, ylang ylang, coriander and lime. This is followed by a 15-minute light therapy session using daylight-mimicking panels designed to enhance serotonin production and promote emotional balance.
Guests can then choose from one of three tailored 30-minute enhancements: an Elevated Hair & Scalp Treatment, a Grounded Foot Treatment, or an Express Facial. The retreat concludes with mood-boosting refreshments, including Mayde Teas, a vitamin-rich fresh fruit platter, and organic chocolate.
Wellness escapes in Byron Bay and Cairns
Crystalbrook is also inviting guests to pair their spa treatment with a wellness-focused escape. In Byron Bay, Crystalbrook Byron offers rainforest bathing, Finnish and infrared saunas, and a heated infinity pool set in lush surrounds. In Cairns, guests can relax at Crystalbrook Riley’s 1,000-square-metre man-made beach lagoon or take in the Esplanade views from Crystalbrook Flynn’s glass swimming pools, with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef.
