Davao Roadshow shows why Aussies love the Philippines

The Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) has concluded a highly successful promotional roadshow across Sydney and Melbourne, aimed at showcasing Davao’s unique tourism offerings to the Australian travel trade.

With 120 travel agents and industry professionals attending, the event series highlighted Davao’s appeal as a destination for adventure, diving, and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, while fostering valuable B2B connections with key suppliers, including the City Government of Davao and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.

PDOT Director Pura Molintas expressed gratitude for the positive reception from the Australian industry, saying, “We have been overwhelmed by the response. There is a strong appetite for education about the Philippines within the travel trade, and we intend to continue to drive as much awareness as we can.”

Davao: A Destination for Nature, Adventure, and Culture

Davao, known as the “fruit basket of the Philippines,” offers a diverse array of attractions—from Mount Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines, to the underwater paradises of Samal Island. Visitors to Davao can also learn about the rare and endangered Philippine eagle at the renowned Philippine Eagle Center, a conservation hub for this national symbol.

The region is easily accessible for Australian travellers with direct flights to Manila from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, courtesy of Qantas, Philippine Airlines, and Cebu Pacific. From Manila, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific offer connections to Davao, making it a convenient addition to any Philippines itinerary.

Australian Tourism to the Philippines on the Rise

Australia is now the Philippines’ fifth-largest inbound tourism market, with 175,107 Australian tourists visiting the Philippines from January to September 2024—up significantly from the 112,500 Australians in 2022. Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco welcomed the growing interest from Australian travellers, emphasising the Philippines’ balance of natural beauty, cultural diversity, and affordability.

“We are thrilled to see the Philippines becoming a top choice for Australian travellers,” Secretary Frasco said, inviting Aussies to explore the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, delicious cuisine, and the famous Filipino hospitality that makes it a memorable yet budget-friendly destination.
