Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise has announced the upcoming launch of BASIN Glacial Waters, an innovative indoor-outdoor thermal bathing facility set to open in late 2025. Positioned along the shores of Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta, this luxury wellness experience is designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding alpine landscape while offering a modern interpretation of thermal bathing.
A new era of wellness in the Canadian Rockies
Inspired by the ancient tradition of thermotherapy, BASIN Glacial Waters will offer a self-guided journey through diverse water temperatures, designed to restore both body and mind. This state-of-the-art facility has been two decades in the making and is the vision of internationally recognised architect Matteo Thun.
“BASIN sets a new worldwide standard for thermal spa luxury and will be a flagship for Fairmont’s new wellbeing platform,” said Emlyn Brown, senior vice president, wellbeing, strategy, design and development at Accor Group.
“This groundbreaking wellness opening will redefine what luxury thermal bathing means in the breathtaking Canadian Rockies.”
Thoughtfully designed for total relaxation
Guests will enter BASIN Glacial Waters through a low-lit, sensory passageway, designed to create a calming transition into the wellness space. Large arched windows will flood the interior with natural light while offering uninterrupted views of Lake Louise and its surrounding peaks.
The facility will include:
- a series of thermal bathing pools with varying temperatures, including a circular reflexology pool, a waterfall feature pool, and a cold Kneipp Walk
- an infinity pool extending from indoors to the outdoor wellness terrace
- Finnish and Bio saunas offering both high- and low-humidity options
- the Aufguss Sauna, inspired by European sweat culture, set to be a signature experience
- traditional steam rooms to enhance the hydrotherapy circuit
- outdoor ice-temperature plunge pools and cold bucket drops for contrast therapy
- the Silent Salt Relax room, featuring a Himalayan salt wall to naturally ionise the air
- the Hot Stone room, where guests can recline on heated stone slab beds for full-body muscle relaxation
A reimagined alpine wellness experience
General manager of Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Tracy Lowe, described the launch of BASIN Glacial Waters as a transformative addition to the resort.
“This facility elevates the resort experience entirely, becoming a destination in its own right,” Lowe said. “Guests will be able to take their interpretation of wellbeing discovery to an entirely different level while enjoying the renowned hospitality of Fairmont Hotels.”
With its innovative design, premium wellness features, and stunning natural setting, BASIN Glacial Waters is set to become one of the most sought-after luxury spa experiences in North America.
