The Australian Government is committing millions in new tourism funding to support some of the country’s most iconic regions, including Central Australia and the Great Barrier Reef, while also strengthening border services to improve the visitor experience nationwide.
A total of $8.5 million has been allocated to Central Australia to attract more visitors to the Red Centre, support tourism operators in Alice Springs/Mparntwe, and develop new, immersive travel experiences. The funding aims to reinvigorate the region’s appeal to both domestic and international markets.
An additional $10 million is being invested in the Reef Educational Experience Fund (REEF), which will subsidise school excursions to the Great Barrier Reef and support international advertising campaigns. The initiative is designed to connect more young Australians with the Reef and promote it as a must-visit destination for global travellers.
Perth airport and border services receive major upgrade
Tourism infrastructure is also set for an uplift, with $24 million pledged to enhance border services at major entry points across the country. A significant portion of this will go towards upgrades at Perth Airport, part of a broader effort to establish the city as a premier gateway for international tourism.
