Hotel Indigo Auckland, New Zealand’s first Hotel Indigo property, is preparing to soft open 54 rooms on 23 December 2024, just in time for the summer holidays.
Located on Albert Street in the heart of Auckland’s vibrant midtown, the boutique hotel will fully open in early 2025, offering 225 rooms that celebrate the city’s rich history and neighbourhood charm.
Dining inspired by global cities
Hotel Indigo Auckland will debut its dining venues from March 2025, featuring a French-inspired bistro, Bistro Saine, a café-come-wine bar, and a sophisticated cocktail lounge. Designed in consultation with Australian hospitality design firm Ingram Advisory, these venues aim to transport guests to the vibrant eateries of New York, London, and Paris.
During the soft opening phase, guests can enjoy complimentary neighbourhood tastings in the lobby while receiving insider tips on Auckland’s best dining and entertainment hotspots.
Leadership and culinary appointments
Leading the team is general manager Mathew Simister, an IHG veteran with experience opening hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. He previously spearheaded the openings of Holiday Inn Queenstown Remarkables Park and supported Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort and Spa.
Alice Scott joins as director of sales and marketing, bringing expertise from her role as senior project manager for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
At the helm of the hotel’s culinary offerings is executive chef Yutak Son, whose impressive resume includes time at Sidart, Orphans Kitchen, and Waiheke Island’s The Shed at Te Motu. Yutak’s innovative approach promises a memorable dining experience for guests.
A celebration of Auckland’s heritage
Hotel Indigo Auckland pays homage to its neighbourhood’s storied past, including its roots as a heritage-listed motor house from 1912. The original façade has been carefully preserved, and the building’s design, artwork, and amenities reflect the area’s motoring history while offering a modern, boutique experience.
Occupying 27 floors of a 41-storey tower, the hotel provides breathtaking views of Auckland’s skyline and harbour. Guests will enjoy convenient access to major attractions, including the New Zealand International Convention Centre, opening mid-2025, Sky Tower, Britomart, Wynyard Quarter, and the Viaduct precinct.
General manager Mathew Simister expressed his excitement, saying, “We are thrilled to be soft opening New Zealand’s first neighbourhood-inspired Hotel Indigo property in Auckland just before the summer holidays, giving guests a taste of what’s to come in 2025. Hotel Indigo Auckland will be the poster child for the culturally rich boutique brand in New Zealand.”
