Hotel Review: Rendezvous Melbourne

Centrally located on Flinders Street in Melbourne’s CBD, the Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne is the perfect balance of heritage style with new-world elegance.

The rooms boast stunning views of the Yarra River Southbank, making it the perfect location to watch the world go by.

The Hotel

If history is your thing, then you will love the Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne. Built in 1913, this heritage-listed hotel boasts 340 rooms overlooking the Yarra River and many of Melbourne’s top attractions within easy reach, including Flinders Street Station just 3 minutes away. Within the property you will find a well-equipped fitness centre, bustling hotel restaurant and bar, and versatile event spaces, perfect for meetings, conferences and weddings.

The Rooms

The rooms are designed in a contemporary style, whilst exuding old-world charm with bespoke furnishings. Each room offers quality amenities, Dreamcatcher beds, free WiFi, and 24-hour in-room dining. In the heritage wing, rooms feature 7-metre-high ceilings and are a charming combination of heritage style, elegance, luxury and comfort. Room options include twin, queen, and king-sized bed configurations.

The lead-in Commerce Rooms pay homage to the ‘Commercial Travellers Association’ who commissioned the original building in 1912. These include the Commerce Yarra View and Commerce Premier rooms.

The Perkins rooms, including Yarra View and Corner View, are named after the famous Hollywood actor, Anthony Perkins, who starred in ‘On the Beach’, filmed at the hotel in 1959. For a bit of extra pizazz, the Edwardian Rooms are located in the gorgeous Heritage-listed wing of the hotel and exude an aura of elegance with magnificent 7-metre-high ceilings, Edwardian Baroque architecture, rich upholstery and marble bathrooms.

For those who like a little more space, there is a selection of Suites including the Fuller Suites which are named after Sir John Fuller, Governor of Victoria, who laid the foundation stone of the Commercial Travellers Club in 1913, and the Oakden Suites which are named after one of the oldest and best-known architects in history, and the luxurious 60sqm Tompkins Master Suite which has all the charm and nostalgia of yesteryear with a newfound elegance.

The Dining

At Rendezvous Melbourne you can enjoy a light meal, celebratory feast, a casual drink or indulge in a High Tea. The Travellers Bar located on the ground floor of the hotel provides a taste of the old with a modern twist. Enjoy an extensive selection of freshly brewed teas, coffee and light meals. It is here that breakfast is served daily. In the evening enjoy some of the best Australian-produced spirits and liqueurs hand-crafted into cocktails prepared with organic mixers from Daylesford and Hepburn Springs or simply neat.

Meetings and Conferences

Located in the very heart of the CBD, the hotel offers eleven unique and versatile meeting and event spaces, with beautiful heritage features. Covering over 1100sqm across two levels, it is a venue for every type of event, from group business meetings and grand galas to intimate gatherings and small corporate functions.
