International Rail has recorded the highest monthly sales in its 21-year history, with June delivering a record result as international demand for rail travel rebounded strongly following a softer start to the year.
The Melbourne-based rail wholesaler said June sales were around 30 per cent higher than the previous three months, positioning 2026 to become its strongest revenue year on record.
European demand drives recovery
International Rail Owner and Managing Director Jonathan Hume said the business had experienced renewed momentum after traveller uncertainty linked to the Middle East affected bookings between March and May.
“After a softer March–May period due to traveller uncertainty around the Middle East, June has surged back,” Hume said.
“Sales were approximately 30% higher than the previous three months, marking a significant recovery in our traditional peak season.”
Hume attributed the result to strengthening demand for European rail travel, successful Eurail promotions and continued growth across the company’s expanding international portfolio.
Online expansion boosts growth
The wholesaler has recently added online booking capability for Japan Rail and Amtrak products, broadening its global offering for travel advisors.
“Our broader international offering continues to perform exceptionally well. Japan and Amtrak are now available to book online, and that accessibility is driving new growth,” Hume said.
He said continued investment in technology and product expansion had helped the business grow significantly since the pandemic.
“We’re now five times larger than we were pre-pandemic. The combination of rail’s global resurgence and our investment in online capability and product range has put us in a very strong position.”
