Jetstar has unveiled a new direct route between Brisbane and Rarotonga, launching in May 2026. The airline offers launch fares from just $249 one-way during a 48-hour sales window starting today.
The service will operate three times weekly aboard Jetstar’s fuel-efficient A321neo LR aircraft, providing more than 50,000 seats annually. This marks Jetstar’s second route to the Cook Islands from Australia, and exclusive direct service from Brisbane.
Expanding Queensland’s international travel network
Queensland is central to Jetstar’s international expansion — accounting for over half its domestic routes. In just six months, the airline has announced six new services from the state:
- Gold Coast ↔ Bali (Denpasar)
- Gold Coast ↔ Hamilton (New Zealand)
- Gold Coast ↔ Dunedin
- Cairns ↔ Christchurch
- Brisbane ↔ Cebu (Philippines)
- Now: Brisbane ↔ Rarotonga
Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully emphasised the strength of travel demand from Queensland and the potential to offer more than 110,000 annual seats between Australia and the Cook Islands when Rarotonga flights begin.
The Cook Islands government has welcomed the announcement, noting tourism contributes around 75 per cent of national GDP. Its Prime Minister highlighted the social and economic benefits of increased connectivity with Australia.
Cook Islands General Manager Australasia Graeme West, said today’s announcement was fantastic, and will build on the amazing growth that the Cook Islands has seen from Australia in the past two years, since Jetstar started flying direct from Sydney.
“Australians are discovering that the Cook Islands is unique – there are no crowds, there are plenty of activities to keep even the most active visitor entertained for days, and visitors go around the island(s) visiting cafes, restaurants, beaches and more” he said.

Brisbane Airport CEO Gert‑Jan de Graaff said the route strengthens the city’s position as the leading gateway to the South Pacific, adding Rarotonga as Brisbane’s 35th international destination.
