Journey Beyond’s new luxury rail suites

Journey Beyond is set to redefine luxury train travel in Australia with the introduction of two new premium suites, the Australis Suite and Aurora Suite.

Scheduled to debut in April 2026, these suites will enhance the experience on The Ghan, Indian Pacific and the Great Southern, offering an unrivalled level of comfort and sophistication.

A new era of luxury on the rails

The Australis and Aurora Suites will provide travellers with a refined way to experience Australia’s breathtaking landscapes, combining first-class design with world-class hospitality. Journey Beyond CEO Chris Tallent says the new suites will elevate the brand’s reputation in the global luxury market.

“A new level of luxury awaits guests in 2026, and we are excited to launch these suites, setting the highest standard of train travel in Australia and internationally,” says Tallent. “As demand for luxury travel grows, we are committed to enhancing the onboard experience to meet and surpass global expectations.”

Inspired design meets outback elegance

Renowned global design firm Woods Bagot has been engaged to craft interiors that blend art deco luxury with an authentic connection to the Australian outback. Woods Bagot Principal Rosina Di Maria says the suites represent a unique take on Australian luxury, incorporating quality materials and thoughtful detailing.

“The suites are unparalleled, offering a premium, elevated luxury experience,” says Di Maria. “Australian luxury is characterised by quiet confidence, quality, comfort, and attention to detail.”

The interiors will feature bespoke timber accents, marble masonry, and intricate ironwork, drawing inspiration from Australia’s pastoral heritage with sheepskin and saddle leather details.

The Australis Suite, the largest and most luxurious in Australian train travel, offers an expansive sanctuary for guests. Three times the size of a Platinum cabin, it features a separate bedroom with a fixed queen-sized bed, a spacious lounge, and an ensuite with a double vanity and premium Jurlique amenities.
