Intrepid Travel has unveiled six new rail itineraries, expanding its dedicated rail range to 50 trips across four continents.
This expansion caters to the growing demand for sustainable, immersive travel experiences that prioritise the journey as much as the destination.
Since launching its dedicated rail range in 2024, Intrepid has observed a 24 per cent year-on-year growth in bookings. The company’s rail trips are crafted to minimise environmental impact by eliminating internal flights, thereby reducing carbon emissions. Travellers can enjoy the convenience and comfort of train travel while engaging more deeply with local communities and cultures.
Erica Kritikides, General Manager of Experiences at Intrepid Travel, stated, “Rail travel has taken off in the past couple of years and for good reason. In a world that feels like it’s always going at full steam, rail travel provides ease, convenience and a slower pace. The latest additions to our popular rail range are some of our most exciting yet, traversing both iconic and lesser-known routes and providing access to new places and experiences. As with all the trips in our rail range, there are no internal flights and the majority of travel is done by train, reflecting our long-term product development plans to leave lighter tracks.”
New rail routes span continents

The newly introduced trips offer travellers the opportunity to explore diverse landscapes and cultures via iconic public rail networks. The additions include:
- Kenya by Rail: Trains, Safaris & Beaches (10 days) – A journey through Kenya’s national parks aboard the Madaraka Express, offering wildlife sightings en route.
- Malaysia’s Jungle Railway (10 days) – Traverse remote regions of Malaysia, where lush jungles and limestone cliffs line the route.
- China & Laos: Kunming to Bangkok by Rail (11 days) – Experience the first cross-border bullet train from China through Laos, continuing to Bangkok by overnight train.
- Vietnam & China: Hanoi to Kunming by Rail (11 days) – Journey through Vietnam’s Sapa region into China, exploring areas rich in Tibetan culture and hiking the renowned Tiger Leaping Gorge.
- Northern Sweden by Rail (9 days) – Travel through Abisko National Park and the Arctic tundra, stopping at remote villages near the polar circle.
- Eastern Canada by Rail (10 days) – Journey from Toronto to Montreal, visiting the Thousand Islands, Ottawa, and Quebec along the way.
Each itinerary is designed to provide travellers with a unique perspective of the regions, emphasising local interactions and scenic landscapes.
