Jetstar has marked a significant milestone with the launch of its inaugural Sydney to Hamilton service, reinstating international flights to Hamilton Airport after a 13-year hiatus. Flight JQ165 departed Sydney at 06:15 and touched down in Hamilton at 11:15, heralding a new era of trans-Tasman connectivity.
Expansion of trans-Tasman network
This new route is part of Jetstar’s broader trans-Tasman expansion strategy. Following the Sydney-Hamilton launch, the airline is set to commence flights between Hamilton and the Gold Coast on 18 June, operating three times weekly. Additionally, direct services from Dunedin to the Gold Coast are scheduled to begin on 24 June, further enhancing travel options between Australia and New Zealand.
Jetstar’s services on these routes will utilize a mix of Airbus A320ceo and the newer A320neo aircraft. The A320neo offers passengers improved comfort with features such as quieter engines, increased fuel efficiency, larger overhead storage bins, in-seat power outlets, and modern ergonomic seating.
Boost to regional tourism
The introduction of these flights is expected to inject a significant boost into regional tourism. Hamilton Airport Chief Executive Mark Morgan highlighted the importance of this development, stating that it provides Australians with a direct gateway into New Zealand’s heartland, while offering Kiwis an affordable and convenient option to travel across the Tasman.
To celebrate the launch, Jetstar is offering special sale fares starting from $169 one-way between Sydney and Hamilton. These promotional fares are available for a limited time and are subject to availability and travel dates.
