Jetstar is making travel between Brisbane and Bangkok easier and more affordable with the launch of its new direct flights. Taking off this afternoon, the service is the first direct connection between Queensland and Thailand’s vibrant capital in nearly five years.
Operating three times a week on Jetstar’s fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the eight-hour flight is expected to carry over 100,000 passengers annually. The direct service eliminates the need for layovers, significantly reducing travel time for Queenslanders heading to Bangkok.
For inbound travellers, the route is set to boost Queensland’s tourism industry, offering easier access to the Sunshine State’s popular destinations. This is the latest addition to Jetstar’s rapidly growing network from Brisbane, with 14 new routes launched in 2024 alone.
Affordable fares to an iconic destination
To celebrate the new route, Jetstar is offering sale fares starting at $292 one-way for bookings made by midnight tonight. Bangkok’s appeal as a destination spans its vibrant street food, bustling markets, historic temples, and electric nightlife, making it a favourite for Australian travellers.
Jetstar’s Head of Network, Ted Knight, highlighted the importance of the service:
‘This is our 20th Brisbane route following a massive expansion of low-fare flights from Brisbane. The sold-out inaugural flight shows how much demand there is for affordable travel to Thailand’s capital.’
Strengthening Queensland’s travel connections
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff praised the route as a crucial step in post-pandemic recovery:
‘Bangkok has been one of the most requested destinations, and thanks to Jetstar, Queensland and Thailand are now reconnected. With Jetstar becoming Brisbane Airport’s second-largest international carrier, we look forward to even more destinations opening up.’
Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell also welcomed the flights, noting their potential to attract international visitors while giving locals direct access to one of Australia’s favourite overseas destinations.
