NSW Health has issued a new Public Health Order, extending travel restrictions to Lord Howe Island for a period of up to 90 days.
The new Health Order includes provision for a monthly review and may be repealed before it’s due to expire, based on virus infection rates on the mainland.
Many businesses are now planning to reopen in early October, in the hopes of being able to restart tourism on the island as soon as possible.
Qantas has cancelled flights to Lord Howe for the month of September, however, flights are still loaded in the system for October and November 2020.
This is the fourth Health Order issued for the island since March this year: As at 31 August, 2020, Public Health (COVID-19 Lord Howe Island) Order (No 4) 2020 continues the restrictions on who can enter or leave Lord Howe Island and self-isolation requirements until 28 November, 2020.
This means that the following requirements continue to apply:
• During the restrictions, persons allowed to access Lord Howe Island are limited to residents, essential and medical service workers and those providing services to the island. Those wishing to access the island will continue to need approval and will be subject to self-isolation regulations per the Order
• Approved persons arriving before the Order expires will need to complete a full 14 days’ quarantine on Lord Howe Island.
Qantas and Eastern Air Services, which operate flights to the island, are working with visitors who had booked flights during September.
