The Maldives government, tourism body and health ministry have proactively implemented a comprehensive set of preventative measures against the spread of COVID19, aligned with the World Health Organization’s advice.
As at 12 March 2020, there are currently 8 foreign nationals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, with a further 13 people in quarantine on Villivaru and 15 in isolation on Farukolhu.
The Maldives has put in place precautionary measures by establishing thermal screening, local testing facilities, travel advisories, and designated quarantine centres. With the confirmation of a positive case, additional measures such as increased surveillance is now in place.
Several resorts are taking temporary restrictive measures. The government is also considering the use of non-operational resorts as possible alternative isolation facility locations if required.
Maldivians and visitors to the Maldives are reminded to maintain a high level of personal hygiene to prevent and contain the potential spread of infection. Any person experiencing symptoms of the virus should immediately call the designated hotline (1676) before visiting a public health facility.
Travel Restrictions to Maldives
No passengers originating from, transiting to or with a travel history of travel in China, Iran, Italy, South Korea and Bangladesh will be permitted entry into the Maldives. Maldivians and spouses of Maldivians who are foreign nationals will be allowed to enter but may be subject to quarantine measures.
The government has also decided to temporarily suspend cruise ships docking in its ports.
