Malolo Island Resort unveils $4.6M upgrade

Fiji’s beloved Malolo Island Resort has announced a multi-million-dollar transformation, reinforcing its commitment to delivering an authentic, family-friendly island escape. Owned and operated by Ahura Resorts, the 100 per cent Fijian-owned property has invested over FJD $4.6 million in upgrades designed to blend modern convenience with cultural immersion and environmental responsibility.

From revamped bures to an upgraded app and sustainability-driven initiatives, the resort’s refresh honours its heritage while redefining the barefoot luxury experience for families and couples alike.

Upgraded stays, seamless service

A key focus of the resort’s investment has been technology and comfort. Guests can now enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi across all 46 bures and suites, along with a new Malolo Resort App enabling digital check-in, daily activity updates and experience bookings.

The accommodations have received stylish updates including new bedding, blackout curtains, and in-room espresso machines. Public spaces and dining venues also feature new furniture, and the resort’s gardens have been replanted to align with the island’s natural charm.

Sustainability and style

Sustainability is central to the resort’s new chapter. A self-sufficient water production and bottling plant is nearing completion, with each room to receive complimentary still water in custom recycled glass bottles made on-site. The revitalised adults-only pool terrace also offers upgraded lounging for peaceful, child-free relaxation.

Dining remains a highlight with three venues offering everything from beachside casual bites to a refined à la carte experience in the adults-only restaurant.

Cultural discovery for kids

Malolo’s Tia’s Treehouse Kids Club continues to set the benchmark for family travel in Fiji. Its award-winning program is designed to immerse children in local culture, environment and history. Themes change daily, featuring everything from traditional costume making and herbal medicine workshops to storytelling, Fijian language lessons and fish feeding excursions.

“Our Kids Club goes beyond babysitting — it truly introduces the magic and heritage of Fiji to our youngest guests,” said Tony Whitton, Managing Director of Ahura Resorts.

Island adventures for all

With its stunning location in the Mamanuca Islands, Malolo offers complimentary non-motorised water sports, guided walks, and cultural activities. The nearby Malolo Barrier Reef gives easy access to world-class surf breaks like Cloudbreak, while guests looking for quiet can escape to nearby Mociu Island for a private picnic or snorkelling.

Those seeking rest and renewal can retreat to Leilani’s Spa, a jungle-set sanctuary that opened just last year with a menu of relaxing treatments.

Getting there

Located just 25 kilometres from Nadi International Airport, Malolo Island Resort is easily accessible via a fast catamaran service running four times daily or by 24/7 private water taxi.

But what truly sets Malolo apart is its heart. “You can’t touch it — you can only feel it,” said Whitton. “A third of our team are born and raised on Malolo Island, and every guest becomes part of our family. That’s what makes the Malolo experience unforgettable.”
