Maria Island Walk opens for the 24/25 Season

Spring into Tasmania’s renowned walking season with the multi-award-winning Maria Island Walk, which has just launched its 2024/25 spring/summer offerings, available to book now.

Located off Tasmania’s stunning east coast, this fully guided four-day experience invites travellers to immerse themselves in breathtaking landscapes, vibrant wildlife, and fascinating history.

A Journey Through Tasmania’s Best

Designed for small groups of just ten, the Maria Island Walk offers an intimate connection with nature. Guests trek through pristine beaches, dense rainforests, and the largest stand of giant Tasmanian blue gums, alongside dramatic sea cliffs like those of Fossil Bay. For adventure seekers, optional climbs to Mt Maria or Bishop and Clerk reward with sweeping views over the island and beyond.

Wildlife enthusiasts will relish daily encounters with wombats, wallabies, kangaroos, and even the elusive Tasmanian devil, which thrives here as part of a growing insurance population. Birdlife is equally abundant, from Cape Barren geese to majestic wedge-tailed eagles.

Eco-Friendly Accommodation

Guests stay in eco-wilderness camps that blend sustainability with comfort. These low-impact bush camps feature bush showers, composting toilets, and serene locations close to the coastline. Falling asleep to the gentle rhythm of ocean waves and waking to birdsong encapsulates the essence of Wild Bush Luxury’s philosophy: reconnecting with nature in style.

The final night is spent at the historic Bernacchi House, built in 1880 by Italian pioneer Diego Bernacchi. Recently refurbished using local artisans and materials, the house marries heritage charm with modern luxury.

A Culinary Celebration of Tasmania

Meals on the Maria Island Walk showcase Tasmania’s rich produce. Dishes like blue trevalla with watercress mash, rustic potato and leek soup, and roast pumpkin salad highlight the flavours of the region, paired with fine Tasmanian wines.

Why Choose the Maria Island Walk?

“Maria Island is a truly remarkable place that we believe should be celebrated for its incredible landscapes, wildlife and history,” said CEO of Experience Co and owners of Wild Bush Luxury John O’Sullivan. “Our guests also love the mental and physical rejuvenation that comes with guided walking and the chance to disconnect from everyday life.”

Plan Your Escape

The Maria Island Walk runs weekly from October to April, with prices starting from $3,250 per person twin share. For winter adventurers, a three-day Winter Escape Walk from May to August offers a shorter but equally rewarding journey, priced from $1,900 per person twin share.

Both packages include return transfers from Hobart, a scenic cruise to Maria Island, National Park entry fees, experienced guides, gourmet meals, and eco-friendly accommodation.
