Malaysia Airlines has confirmed it will return to Brisbane from 29 November 2025, reinstating direct services between Kuala Lumpur and Queensland’s capital after a multi-year absence. The long-anticipated move strengthens the airline’s commitment to the Australian market and forms part of a broader regional expansion strategy.
The new Kuala Lumpur–Brisbane route will operate five times a week, with promotional return fares starting from RM 1,999 in Economy Class and RM 8,999 in Business Class. Flights will be serviced by the airline’s new A330neo aircraft, offering enhanced passenger comfort, improved fuel efficiency, and upgraded cabin features.
Strategic move for Australia–Asia connectivity
The return of Brisbane joins increased frequencies to Sydney and Melbourne, reinforcing Malaysia Airlines’ position as a leading connector between Australia and Asia. The additional capacity is expected to meet growing demand from both leisure and business travellers across the trans-Asia market.
“Australia continues to be one of our most important international markets, and we’re thrilled to be reconnecting with Queensland,” said Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group.
“The return to Brisbane aligns with our broader growth strategy and our commitment to offering seamless travel experiences built on our signature Malaysian hospitality.”
The Brisbane service will further support partnerships with Australian tourism boards and other trade stakeholders, with new collaborations expected to be formalised during the upcoming MATTA Fair in Malaysia.
Expanded frequencies across the region
In addition to Brisbane’s return, the airline will also boost frequencies on several key routes from late 2025:
- Sydney to increase to 21 flights weekly by 31 October
- Melbourne to reach 21 flights weekly by 30 October
- Auckland rising to 10 services weekly from 27 October
- Additional flights also confirmed for Surabaya, Phuket and Trivandrum
These changes reflect Malaysia Airlines’ ongoing efforts to meet regional demand and enhance its role as a full-service carrier within the Asia-Pacific.
New aircraft livery celebrates global partnership
In a nod to its growing international presence, Malaysia Airlines has also unveiled a co-branded aircraft livery in partnership with Manchester United. The special design, featured on an A330-300, celebrates the airline’s alignment with global sporting prestige and national pride.
