Top surfers drop in on Manly for WSL Sydney Surf Pro
Manly will host the World Surf League’s newest event – the Sydney Surf Pro – secured for the next three years. The NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, has secured the event exclusively for Sydney as part of the new global WSL Challenger Series. The WSL Sydney Surf Pro will include men’s and women’s events and is locked in for Manly from 2020 to 2022, with the first event to take place between 8-14 March next year. The WSL Challenger Series, announced in September, is a new level of competition that provides athletes with more opportunities at the highest level to qualify for the elite Championship Tour.
ATEC in Brisbane
More than 450 export tourism industry leaders from across Australia will gather in Brisbane this week for the Australian Tourism Export Council’s (ATEC) annual Meeting place event. This year’s event will be the largest on record and is recognised as the premier B2B and conferencing event for the export tourism industry. The Meeting Place conference program ‘Into the Future’ features a strong line up of thought leaders and industry insiders who will lead discussions on current global issues affecting the travel industry.
Other highlights of the conference program include a presentation of Tourism Australia’s recently launched ‘Come Live Our Philausophy’ campaign, insights into encouraging more international travellers to visit regional Australia by Deloitte Access Economics and a forum focused on the development of a sustainable tourism industry. Significant event partners for Meeting Place 2019 are Brisbane Marketing, Tourism & Events Queensland, Qantas and Brisbane Airport.
Opera Australia to Perform Uluru Encore in 2020
Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia has announced that due to the incredible success of the inaugural Opera Australia performance at Uluru in 2019, the opera will return to Uluru from 11-13 December 2020. The expanded program of four uniquely intimate performances is on sale now. “This year’s performance completely sold out in just five days, and the event itself was a great success, so we knew that we needed to find a way for a bigger encore performance”, said Voyages CEO Grant Hunt. Guests in 2020 will be able to curate their own operatic experience from the program, choosing one or multiple performances depending on their own preferences.
