MSC Cruises has officially named its highly anticipated flagship, MSC World America, in a glittering ceremony at the brand-new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal.
The event, which took place on 10 April 2025, featured Hollywood stars Drew Barrymore and Orlando Bloom, who co-star in MSC Cruises’ “Lets Holiday” campaign. Barrymore, the ship’s Godmother, performed the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially christen the vessel.
A star-studded affair
Barrymore, actress and host of The Drew Barrymore Show, expressed her excitement, saying, “It’s such an honour to be MSC World America’s Godmother, and I can’t wait to cut that ribbon tonight and wish the ship smooth seas and good fortune for years to come. Millions of people will create their own memories aboard this beautiful ship, and I know they’ll have a blast experiencing everything MSC World America has to offer.”
The evening featured live entertainment, inspiring speeches, a gala dinner, and unforgettable performances, culminating in a spectacular fireworks and drone display against the Miami skyline. The ceremony marked the start of a new era in cruising, with MSC World America offering a variety of innovative experiences onboard.
Reimagined cruising for North America
MSC World America is the second ship in MSC Cruises’ World Class prototype and ushers in a new world of cruising with enhanced venues, entertainment and dining concepts that combine MSC’s signature European elegance with the comfort and style sought by North American travellers. The ship will also introduce a groundbreaking feature: seven distinct onboard districts, each offering unique experiences and atmospheres designed to enhance guest choice and maximise their onboard time.
After the naming ceremony, MSC World America embarked on a two-night celebratory journey to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the cruise line’s private island in The Bahamas. Here, the MSC Foundation will officially open its new Marine Conservation Centre, a facility dedicated to advancing its Super Coral Reefs Programme. Guests will also enjoy a signature evening lighthouse show, a DJ beach party, and a chance to explore the ship’s extensive amenities.
Inaugural season and Caribbean itineraries
MSC World America will begin its inaugural season on 12 April 2025, sailing from PortMiami. The ship will offer alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, including stops in Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico), Isla de Roatan (Honduras), and all sailings will include a visit to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
