National Geographic recognises 2 Canadian ‘Destinations on the Rise for 2021’

With the promise of a return to international travel, National Geographic Travel’s global editors have pulled together 25 places that they believe will define future itineraries – Destinations on the Rise for 2021.

Across five categories (Adventure, Culture and History, Nature, Family, Sustainability), the National Geographic endorsement is based on these destinations representing resilient communities, conservation success stories, and amazing opportunities for post-pandemic explorations.

Canada has been recognised in two of the five categories. In the Family Journeys category, learning about Indigenous culture in British Columbia’s Vancouver and Vancouver Island led the inspiration, with emphasis on a guided forest ramble with Talaysay Tours in Stanley Park. British Columbia is Canada’s gateway province for Australian and New Zealand travellers and home to more than 200 distinct First Nations. Vancouver and Vancouver Island are both easily accessible places for families to learn about Indigenous culture with First Nations guides and cultural ambassadors.

Canada’s sub arctic township of Yellowknife in the spectacular Northwest Territories, was recognised in the Adventure category for viewing the Northern Lights. Sitting on the banks of the Great Slave Lake, Yellowknife is highlighted as a land to find peace and solace, to reconnect and heal under the Aurora. Here the Northern Lights shine 240 nights a year, shimmering over the boreal forests and countless lakes during two Aurora seasons, winter plus late summer and early fall.
