NCL welcomes new ship Norwegian Aqua

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has taken delivery of Norwegian Aqua, the 20th ship in its award-winning fleet and the first in the next-generation Prima Plus Class. Built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, Norwegian Aqua introduces groundbreaking innovations and industry-first experiences, from a rollercoaster-meets-waterslide attraction to new dining concepts and world-class entertainment.

At the same time, NCL has marked a significant construction milestone for its next ship, Norwegian Luna, which has now floated out from dry dock and will be prepared for its launch in April 2026.

A new era of cruising with Norwegian Aqua

Norwegian Aqua builds on the success of the Prima Class, offering 10 per cent more space and capacity while maintaining a focus on guest comfort, innovative design and immersive experiences. The 322-metre, 156,300-gross-ton ship accommodates 3,571 guests and features expansive outdoor areas for a deeper connection to the ocean.

David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, said Norwegian Aqua represents a new standard in cruise innovation.

“Norwegian Aqua is more than just a ship—it’s a commitment to our guests that we will continue to push boundaries and deliver more at sea,” Herrera said.

“From thrilling attractions like the Aqua Slidecoaster to the debut of Sukhothai, our first Thai specialty restaurant, Norwegian Aqua is designed to create unforgettable moments.”

Exciting new onboard experiences

Norwegian Aqua debuts a range of brand-first and industry-leading features, including:

  • Aqua Slidecoaster – the world’s first rollercoaster-meets-waterslide attraction, delivering high-speed thrills and ocean views.
  • Aqua Game Zone – an interactive entertainment space with retro arcade classics like Ms. Pacman and Donkey Kong, plus virtual reality experiences.
  • Glow Court – a high-tech sports complex that transforms into a nightclub after dark.
  • Sukhothai – NCL’s first Thai specialty restaurant, joining favourites such as Cagney’s Steakhouse and Le Bistro.
  • Indulge Food Hall – now featuring Planterie, a new eatery serving plant-based bowls and healthy options.
  • Revolution: A Celebration of Prince – a theatrical concert experience celebrating the legendary artist, created in partnership with Prince Legacy, LLC.
  • Elements: The World Expanded – a reimagined version of NCL’s most highly rated production, combining acrobatics, magic and stunning visual effects.

Norwegian Aqua’s debut season

Following inaugural sailings in Europe, Norwegian Aqua will depart from Southampton, UK, on 28 March 2025, before arriving in the US for events in Boston and New York. The ship will be officially christened in Miami on 13 April 2025, with Emmy Award-winning Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet serving as the godfather.

In her first year, Norwegian Aqua will sail Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries from Miami and Port Canaveral (Orlando), with stops in Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and Great Stirrup Cay—NCL’s private island, which will soon feature a brand-new pier. She will also offer Bermuda sailings from New York City during the peak summer season.
