Australian travellers planning a Greek island adventure or a European itinerary can now book ferry tickets for the 2025 summer season through International Rail’s new direct booking platform.
The platform offers live access to popular ferry routes from Piraeus (Athens) to destinations across the Cyclades, Dodecanese, and Saronic islands, as well as international routes connecting Athens to Italy, including Patras to Bari and Ancona.
Affordable and convenient travel options
Ferry tickets start at just $65 per person one way for the popular Athens to Santorini route, while international routes, such as Bari to Dubrovnik, begin at $130 per person one way. Travellers can save money and enjoy a more scenic and relaxing alternative to flying.
“These routes are always in high demand with Australian travellers, particularly those combining Greece and Italy in their itineraries,” says International Rail’s Hume.
A game-changer for agents
The platform, launched in response to growing demand for standalone ferry bookings, has been widely praised by travel agents. “The ability to book ferries alongside trains, paired with the ease of use, has been a huge hit with agents,” says Hume. “As the first Australian-based booking solution for global ferries, it gives agents the confidence to pre-book for clients before they depart home.”
Secure tickets early to avoid disappointment
With the summer tourist season (May to September) drawing the highest traffic, particularly in July and August, agents are advised to secure ferry tickets well in advance to lock in preferred schedules for their clients.
