Niue experienced a significant boost in tourism in 2024, with a 28 per cent increase in visitor numbers compared to 2023, according to Niue Tourism director Micah Fuhiniu-Viviani. This growth highlights a strong recovery and increasing interest in the island as a travel destination.
New Zealand continues to be the largest source of visitors, followed by Australia, reflecting Niue’s expanding appeal within the Pacific region. The rise in arrivals demonstrates the island’s growing reputation as a unique destination for travellers seeking nature, adventure, and cultural experiences.
Visitor surveys shaping future tourism
To enhance visitor experiences, Niue Tourism is utilising two key surveys. The first is a SurveyMonkey questionnaire available via the airport Wi-Fi in the departure lounge, allowing departing travellers to provide feedback. The second is the International Visitor Survey (IVS), funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and conducted by the South Pacific Tourism Organization.
Insights from these surveys are instrumental in shaping Niue’s tourism strategy, ensuring the island meets visitor expectations while maintaining its unique appeal.
Community plays a vital role
Fuhiniu-Viviani acknowledged the dedication of Niue’s community, the private sector, and tourism businesses, stating that the warmth and hospitality of the people make Niue one of the most welcoming destinations in the Pacific.
Increased flight services in 2025
Looking ahead, Niue’s twice-weekly flights are set to resume from Monday, 5 May 2025, further supporting the island’s tourism growth and accessibility.
