Victorians and travellers from the 30 Local Government Areas (LGA) of Greater Sydney will be required to go into supervised 14-day mandatory quarantine and bear the $2500 cost (for an individual) of that quarantine themselves when the Northern Territory re-opens its borders from Friday 17 July 2020.
The Territory’s chief minister, Michael Gunner, said the escalating COVID-19 situation in Victoria and certain areas in Sydney necessitate the restrictions on people travelling from those locations.
All travellers entering the Territory from 17 July 2020 will be required to apply for a Border Entry Permit.
“We will review the Sydney hotspot declarations in two weeks — one full replication cycle of the virus — to see if they need to be extended or amended,” Mr Gunner said.
“This will stay in place for as long as we need it to, until we are confident it is under control.”
