At 5pm yesterday afternoon, NSW imposed new restrictions for Greater Sydney, the Illawarra and the Central Coast, which will be in effect until midnight on Sunday 9 May 2021.
A case of community transmission – a Sydney man in his 50s – has prompted the introduction of new restrictions while health authorities trace the origins of the case. The man’s wife has now also tested positive to COVID-19.
People in the designated restricted areas must now wear masks in indoor venues, there is a ban on indoor singing and dancing including at places of worship, a limit of two visitors to aged care and 20 visitors to homes, mandatory masks for hospitality workers and mandatory masks on public transport. Patrons of clubs and pubs will be required to be seated.
In response, several states including Queensland and WA have reinstated 14-day mandatory quarantine for anyone arriving into those states from Sydney hotspots.
NZ Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, has also pressed paused on the Trans Tasman bubble for travellers between New Zealand and NSW.
