Victorians now have a more convenient way to reach the Hawaiian Islands, with the launch of Qantas’ new direct service between Melbourne and Honolulu. The inaugural flight departed on 1 May, perfectly timed to coincide with Hawai‘i’s annual Lei Day – a celebration of culture, connection, and the spirit of aloha.
Passengers were treated to live Hawaiian music and hula dancing at Melbourne Airport, with the vibrant send-off organised in partnership with Hawai‘i Tourism Oceania (HTO), Meet Hawai‘i, Qantas, and Melbourne Airport.
More access, more aloha
The new service operates three times a week on Qantas’ Airbus A330 aircraft, delivering more than 80,000 additional seats annually between Victoria and Hawai‘i. Flights depart Melbourne every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a flight time of just over 10 hours.
Jennifer Gaskin, Account Director for Hawai‘i Tourism Oceania, said the new service would strengthen the already close ties between Australians and Hawai‘i.
“There’s a long-standing love between Australians and Hawai‘i, and this new Qantas flight from Melbourne to Honolulu makes that connection even easier,” said Gaskin.
“It’s a great opportunity for more Aussies to soak up the sun, experience the rich culture, and enjoy the aloha spirit that keeps them coming back.”
Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said the launch reflects Qantas’ broader plans to expand international connectivity.
“Hawai‘i is one of our most popular leisure destinations and our Sydney to Honolulu flights are a favourite with customers year-round,” said Wallace.
“It’s fantastic to offer Victorians the option to fly with Qantas directly to the Hawaiian Islands and to build on our proud, longstanding connection with Hawai‘i.”
