Qantas has announced two major new international routes from its western gateway, Perth, with direct flights to Johannesburg and Auckland launching in December 2025. The new services will significantly boost connectivity between Western Australia and two of its most in-demand global destinations.
Flights are available to book now, with the first Perth–Johannesburg flight departing on 7 December and the Perth–Auckland route following on 8 December. Operated on Qantas’ Airbus A330 aircraft, the new services will run three times weekly and add more than 155,000 seats per year in and out of Perth.
Expanding Perth’s global reach
Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said the announcement marks a new era for travel from Perth.
“We’re so excited to be launching two new international routes, unlocking more options and greater choice for all Australians to connect to the world through our growing network,” Wallace said.
“These routes will also support the Western Australian economy by attracting inbound tourism, creating jobs, and enabling convenient one-stop connections from Perth to cities like Cape Town and New York.”
The expansion is supported by recent federal investment in biosecurity and border services at Perth Airport, allowing for increased international flight capacity.
Perth Airport prepares for growth
Perth Airport welcomed the new services as part of a long-term plan to establish itself as a major international hub.
Kate Holsgrove, Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer at Perth Airport, said: “We’re continuing to invest in new infrastructure and greater capacity. These new services are a major step toward that vision and reinforce Perth’s role as a dynamic international gateway.”
Details of the new routes
- Perth–Johannesburg (QF65): Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays
- Perth–Auckland (QF111): Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays
- Flights operated by Airbus A330 aircraft with 27 Business and 224 Economy seats
- Flight time: approx. 11 hours to Johannesburg, 6 hours 45 minutes to Auckland
