Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, announced yesterday that Queenslanders can now enjoy unrestricted intrastate travel [excluding Indigenous areas protected under the Bosecurity Act) from midday today (1 June 2020), with fewer COVID-19 cases in Queensland heralding the earlier than expected easing of that restriction.
“If you have a camper van and you want to hitch up your trailer and get going to the outback, now is your opportunity,” the Premier said.
“There’s no better time to jump in the car, go and visit that place that you’ve never visited before, take that once-in-a-lifetime trip.”
The Premier has also agreed to restaurants, cafes, and pubs, that can accommodate patrons under strict COVID-19 social distancing regulations, increasing their total number of patrons from 10 to 20.
Queensland borders remain closed to interstate visitors, however, Ms Palaszczuk has suggested the state will review its stance on border closures towards the end of June.
