Sapporo hotel scene expands with new international brands

Sapporo is adding several new international and boutique hotel brands over the next 12 months, including Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo and Hyatt Centric Sapporo, building on the 2025 opening of InterContinental Sapporo, Hokkaido’s first international luxury hotel.

Trunk and Hyatt bring lifestyle brands to Hokkaido

Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo, opening in spring 2027 in the central Odori district, will be a 110-room luxury boutique hotel featuring an open atrium café and bar lounge, spa, gym, and restaurants led by the team behind Sushi Saito, regarded as one of Japan’s top sushi restaurants. Trunk’s existing Tokyo properties in Shibuya and Yoyogi Park have built a reputation for design-led, contemporary hospitality, giving the Sapporo opening strong brand recognition among Japan-focused travellers.

Hyatt Centric Sapporo opens in December 2026, marking the lifestyle-focused Centric brand’s debut in Hokkaido. The 216-room hotel, including nine suites, is positioned in central Sapporo, incorporating local design motifs and offering easy access to both city attractions and ski access.

Recent openings add mid-tier and luxury inventory

InterContinental Sapporo opened in 2025 near Nakajima Park, becoming the city’s first international luxury hotel. Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino opened in July 2026 as IHG’s first Hokkaido property, a 223-room hotel located in Sapporo’s Susukino entertainment and dining district. It follows the late 2025 opening of Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park, a 195-room suite-style property within walking distance of both Odori Park and Susukino.

For agents selling Japan ski and city touring, the expanding hotel mix gives Sapporo stronger accommodation options across luxury, lifestyle and mid-tier segments, supporting itineraries that combine city stays with access to Hokkaido’s ski resorts and broader regional touring.
