Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows has reopened in Apia following a USD8.5 million renovation that revitalises the iconic property.
Blending modern design with Samoan cultural heritage, the transformation marks a new chapter for this historic hotel, part of Marriott International’s global Sheraton brand.
Located in the heart of Samoa’s capital, the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows now showcases a fresh, community-focused design while preserving its deep cultural roots. Architects and interior designers collaborated to merge traditional Samoan motifs with modern aesthetics. Rich wooden textures, natural earth tones, and eco-friendly materials such as sustainable wood and natural fibres dominate the interiors.
Key elements of Samoan culture are incorporated throughout the property, including intricate tapa cloth patterns in the furnishings. The open-concept lobby draws inspiration from Samoa’s traditional fales, creating a warm, inviting space that seamlessly connects the hotel to its harbourfront surroundings.
The property offers 175 accommodations, comprising 149 guest rooms, 23 private bungalows, and 3 suites. Each room features private balconies or patios, offering picturesque views of the lagoon-style pool or harbour.
Revitalised Dining and World-Class Facilities
The hotel has elevated its dining options with the reopening of its poolside restaurant, Feast, serving a mix of international cuisine. Guests can enjoy daily breakfast buffets, themed dinners, and a la carte options. Additional highlights include the Tea House in the lobby, offering freshly brewed coffee and tea, and the Lobby Bar, where expertly crafted cocktails await.
The lagoon-style pool, complete with a swim-up bar, provides a serene retreat for guests. The property also boasts over 500 square metres of event space, including a grand ballroom and air-conditioned meeting rooms, catering to both corporate and social occasions.
Honouring a Storied Past
Originally opened in 1933 by Samoan tourism pioneer Aggie Grey, the hotel became a favourite among celebrities such as Marlon Brando and served as a hub for American servicemen during World War II. Its legacy as Samoa’s original gathering place remains a cornerstone of its identity.
Cluster General Manager Sunil Rawat, who oversees Sheraton Samoa Resorts, shared his excitement: “We pay tribute to the legacy of Aggie Grey while introducing a revitalised, world-class experience. As Samoa’s original gathering place, the Sheraton brand’s global positioning resonates deeply with this iconic property.”
The hotel recently hosted His Majesty King Charles III and the Queen Consort during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, cementing its reputation as a premier destination for high-profile events.
