Melinda Brown, Skål International Sydney President, has issued the following statement:
“There are no magical words to normalise what’s happening in our world right now.
This past week, along with the bans on travel, we have also seen the Public Health (COVID-19 Mass Gatherings) Order 2020 come into play, limiting the number of people at gatherings.
And just last night, the Prime Minister has announced further measures to come into effect over the next 48 hours that will limit our movements to essential services only.
As the Committee of Skal International Sydney, we have a duty of care to you, our members and friends. It is with this in mind that we are cancelling our upcoming scheduled events for April, May and June.
We will be reassessing further events as things progress and will keep you updated as decisions are made.
No one will dispute that the COVID-19 pandemic has provided unprecedented disruption, and everyone’s focus is on the current challenges of running a business at a time of severe uncertainty.
Although we will not be meeting in person, we will try to keep a sense of community during this uncertain time. Please look out for our emails over the coming weeks.
Should you find yourself stranded abroad or otherwise without your usual network of support, please don’t forget we have an international network of members who may be able to assist in a time of self-isolation, lockdown or other.
And further, the Florimond Volckaert Foundation is available to all Skalleagues who are experiencing financial hardship, and this includes for reasons of ill health.
