Central NSW Joint Organisation’s Executive Officer Jenny Bennet has revealed that ‘families are the biggest growing market to visit Central NSW’, citing unique experiences, exceptional value, and convenience as the main drivers of this growth. The region is around two hours by car from capital cities of NSW and ACT – Sydney and Canberra respectively – making it the perfect school holiday adventure for many Australian families.
Travelling close to home also removes barriers like excessive travel time, jetlag, and costly flights, so families can instead spend their time enjoying all that the stunning region has to offer. Read on to discover three experiences spotlighted by Central NSW Joint Organisation for an April adventure.
Canobolas Camels, Orange NSW
For just 20 dollars each, guests of Canobolas Camels can experience a 20-minute camel ride, then have the chance to feed the animals. Afterwards, they can enjoy exploring the beautiful Lake Canobolas and surrounds, including a peaceful walking track, and dine at the Lakeside Kiosk and Café.
Families will enjoy a stay at the nearby Black Sheep Inn, which presents guests with the unique opportunity to stay in a converted searing shed. Adults will enjoy the accommodation’s proximity to orchards and wineries hosting wine tastings.

Glow Worm Tunnel, Lithgow NSW
Perfect for children and parents alike, Wollemi National Park is now home to an incredible Glow Worm Tunnel after multi-million-dollar upgrades. The tunnel, once a railway tunnel, holds thousands of glow worms for visitors to gaze upon as they wander along a 5.7km track. Best of all, this experience is completely free!
Lithgow is also one of The Seven Valleys visitors may like to explore to understand the breadth of experiences on offer in the region. These valleys have it all: natural beauty including national parks, fascinating history and heritage, and ample opportunity to enjoy outdoor adventuring activities.
St Bernards Presbytery cottage is the perfect accommodation for this trip. The cottage is fully renovated yet maintains its historical charm as part of Hartley Village. Hartley Village is a holiday destination in its own right, with guests able to visit the Hartley Historic Site Visitor Centre, appreciate artworks in the Kew-Y-Ahn Aboriginal Gallery, admire the gardens of Little Hartley, and explore several Blue Mountains walking trails.

Birdwatching at Gum Swamp, Forbes NSW
Children and adults alike are sure to enjoy birdwatching at Gum Swamp, home to around 300 species of birds. The wildlife refuge features bird ‘hides’ to help visitors observe the birds’ natural behaviour. Gum Swamp presents a unique educational opportunity for young children, who will undoubtedly also love the 20-metre steel goanna by sculptor Glen Star at the reserve’s entrance.
A farm stay is a must to appreciate the rustic appeal of the region, with Central NSW recommending Top Paddock Silo for an intimate farm stay experience. The Top Paddock Silo Stay features unique amenities including an outdoor spa, where guests are often visited by cattle and wildlife such as kangaroos – truly an authentic Aussie experience.
