Luxury glamping retreat, Paperbark Camp, at Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast, has reopened after lockdown with five Original tents now converted to larger Deluxe Plus safari tents, with the luxury upgrade meaning all 13 tents at the famous camp now boast bush-view tubs and indulgent day beds.
Designed to meet growing demand for more luxury lodgings and accommodation for families and friends, the tent upgrade project received support from the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency. Destination NSW, through its 2020 – 2021 Experience Enhancement Fund.

Sprawling over 63 sqm, the five Deluxe Plus safari tents feature the camp’s first open-air, stargazing deck areas with outdoor seating. The spacious new tents are elevated on Australian hardwood timber platforms to capture sea breezes and provide tranquil bush views. Accommodating up to four people, including children (min. age is six), the Deluxe Plus tents each include a king bed and two single/day sofa beds, sustainable, locally made furniture using timber from the property and a private, open-air ensuite with freestanding tub and shower. The luxury organic cotton linen is from Ecodownunder, the sustainable soft furnishings are from Pony Rider and Dindi Naturals provides the natural, handmade soaps for guests.
Paperbark Camp also offers seven other 48 sqm Deluxe tents for couples with their own bush-view tubs, as well as a 102 sqm King Deluxe tent accommodating up to six people with an indulgent, sunken, circular tub overlooking the forest.
Nestled in bushland and offering a blend of sophistication and simplicity, Paperbark Camp opened in 1999 as Australia’s first glamping property. All 13 tents at the luxury eco retreat are raised and camouflaged amongst spotted gums and paperbark trees along the banks of Currambene Creek, just outside Huskisson. Gourmet dinners, breakfasts, drinks and snacks are served in the camp’s award-winning Gunyah Restaurant and lounge, also nestled high amongst the treetops.
Indulgent and memorable stays at Paperbark are available from $605 a night per couple in a Deluxe safari tent and from $670 a night per couple in one of the new Deluxe Plus safari tents. Extra adults are $190 per person and extra children over six, $110 each. Rates include a gourmet 3 course dinner and breakfast, Wi-Fi and use of canoes and paddleboards on the river.
