With everything changing so quickly, it’s understandable that some confusion still exists around which states are open to whom, and when.
For clarity, here is the latest information available on interstate COVID-19 travel restrictions:
NSW
CLICK HERE for further information. Public Health advice applies to NSW residents returning from Victoria.
Anyone who enters NSW from Victoria and does not live in a border community needs to self-isolate for 14 days.
VICTORIA
Visitors from other states can travel into Victoria, however, the state is now in a second COVID-19 restricted stay-at-home lockdown and ALL states have urged their residents NOT to travel to Victoria. Residents from other states who return from Victoria will be subjected to that state’s re-entry requirements. Check your state for the latest information on returning from Victoria:
New South Wales
Queensland
South Australia
Australian Capital Territory
Tasmania
Western Australia
Northern Territory
ACT
ACT residents who have recently travelled to Victoria, are permitted to return to the ACT, including by car or plane but must quarantine for a period of 14 days from the day after leaving Victoria, under quarantine restrictions.
All ACT residents returning from Victoria will be required to enter quarantine for a period of 14 days from the day after leaving Victoria.
All returning ACT residents must notify ACT Health of their intent to return to the ACT and provide details of the premises at which they will quarantine.
Non ACT residents who have an exceptional need to travel to the ACT from Victoria, may be granted an exemption to enter the ACT.
QUEENSLAND
Queensland will re-open its borders to all other states, with the exception of Victoria, from noon (12:00 AEST) on 10 July 2020. Any person from Victoria who has been in Victoria in the last 14 days will not be permitted to enter Queensland.
People from states other than Victoria who are entering Queensland from 10 July 2020 will be subject to completing and signing a border declaration which includes an undertaking that the person will present for a COVID-19 test if the person develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19 within 14 days of entering Queensland.
Residents returning home to Queensland who have been in Victoria will be required to hotel quarantine, at their own expense.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
People from the Northern Territory, Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia are allowed to enter South Australia without restriction. NSW and ACT residents can enter SA, but they must self-quarantine for 14 days.
People from Victoria, other than essential travellers, will not be allowed to enter South Australia.
South Australian residents returning to SA from Victoria will need to self-isolate for 14 days. You will receive a face mask when you cross the border or arrive at the airport which you must wear. You will also need to have a COVID-19 test in the first 24 hours of your arrival in SA, and then on day 12. Even if you are negative for both tests, you must complete 14 days of isolation.
Regardless of where you have come from, even if you are a returning SA resident, all travellers need pre-approval before entering South Australia. The Cross Border Travel Registration will confirm — before you arrive — whether you need to self-quarantine on arrival.
Complete the form on the SA Police website at least 72 hours prior to your arrival. Your application should then be assessed within 72 hours.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Strict border controls are in place to limit the spread of COVID-19. You cannot enter Western Australia without an exemption.
If you are a Western Australian wishing to return home from domestic travel, before travelling, you will need to apply for an exemption to enter the State. You can apply for an exemption to enter WA by applying for a G2G PASS. If your application is accepted, you will need to self-isolate for 14 days once back in Western Australia. Authorised officers will tell you where and how to self-isolate.
TASMANIA
With the exceptions of Essential Travellers, any visitors who have spent time in Victoria in the 14 days prior to travel are not permitted to travel to Tasmania. If visitors come from Victoria to Tasmania, they will be turned back.

NORTHERN TERRITORY
If you are planning to travel to the Northern Territory from interstate before 17 July 2020, there are a number of things you need to know.
For anyone arriving prior to 17 July 2020, who is not from a hotspot, quarantine ends at 12.01am on 17 July 2020, unless you meet strict exemption criteria. Exemptions are not available to travellers from hotspots. Anyone arriving prior to 17 July 2020, who has been in a hotspot within 14 days of travelling to the Territory, must continue to comply with their existing self-quarantine requirements.
Everyone – whether you are required to self-quarantine or not – must complete an arrival border crossing application.
