Travelex Expands UAE Presence with new airport stores

Travelex is significantly boosting its presence across the UAE, with 13 new stores set to open at Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports.

This expansion strengthens Travelex’s position as a key provider of travel money services in the region, addressing increasing passenger demand and the evolving needs of travellers in these major international hubs.

Doubling Footprint at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport

At Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, Travelex is doubling its footprint by expanding from seven to 14 stores. The new additions include six on-the-move kiosks (OTMs) conveniently positioned in arrivals baggage areas, airside departures, and pre-immigration zones, along with one new traditional landside store. This landside store is designed to provide both consumer and business services, offering travellers access to 62 currencies and airport businesses a cash management solution.

Travelex initially entered Zayed International Airport in 2023 with seven stores and eight ATMs, responding to the rapid growth of this dynamic aviation hub. As Zayed International continues to establish itself as a key player on the global travel stage, Travelex’s expanded services will cater to the airport’s increasing passenger volume and complex customer needs.

Expansion at Dubai International Airport (DXB)

Dubai International (DXB), already a world-leading travel hub, will soon see six new Travelex locations across its three terminals, including upgrades to existing OTMs and the addition of new traditional stores. Two new ATMs dispensing AED were installed at Terminal 3 Arrivals earlier this year, further enhancing convenience for international travellers. DXB has experienced a notable increase in passenger numbers post-pandemic, underscoring its status as a premier global airport.

With these new stores, Travelex’s presence in the UAE reaches a total of 60 locations, offering travellers expanded access to currency exchange services across the country’s busiest airports.

Rising Demand Reflects Regional Growth

The latest figures from IATA reveal a 9.6% year-on-year increase in demand for Middle Eastern airlines as of June 2024, matched by a 9.4% growth in capacity. This upward trend in air travel underscores the importance of Travelex’s strategic expansion, providing international travellers with accessible foreign exchange options across the UAE’s most frequented airports.

Commitment to Customer Convenience and Access

Batu Dölay, Managing Director of Travelex Middle East and Türkiye, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the UAE expansion: “We’re delighted to be expanding our presence at two of the most exciting and dynamic airports in the world. This investment reflects the growing global reach and passenger numbers of our UAE airport partners, and our commitment to providing even greater access to international travel money than ever before.”

As air travel in the Middle East continues to thrive, Travelex’s expansion across Abu Dhabi and Dubai is set to offer seamless currency exchange services for an increasing number of international travellers.
