United adds 10 new international cities for 2027

United Airlines will launch nonstop flights to 10 new international cities from March 2027, in what the carrier describes as the largest international expansion in its history, alongside the debut of its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

New routes span Europe and Asia from three hubs

The new destinations include Okinawa, Japan, flown from San Francisco three times weekly on a Boeing 777-200ER from 27 March 2027. From Washington Dulles, United will fly daily to Toulouse, France, from 26 April 2027, using the A321XLR. From Newark, new routes include daily service to Luxembourg City from 2 April 2027, and to Marseille, France, from 4 June 2027, both on the A321XLR.

Further Newark departures include four-times-weekly service to Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 12 May 2027; three-times-weekly service to Olbia, Sardinia, from 27 May 2027; four-times-weekly service to Catania, Sicily, from 28 May 2027; four-times-weekly service to Ibiza, Spain, from 31 May 2027; three-times-weekly service to Valencia, Spain, from 2 June 2027; and three-times-weekly service to Terceira in Portugal’s Azores from 9 June 2027. Eight of the 10 new routes will be the only nonstop US service to those cities.

Existing route network also expands

United will add daily service from Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan, from 27 March 2027, making it the only airline serving Osaka from two continental US cities. Three-times-weekly nonstop service from Washington DC to Milan begins 28 May 2027, and daily nonstop service from Denver to Paris begins 27 May 2027. United will also restart three-times-weekly service from San Francisco to Tel Aviv from 28 March 2027. All new routes remain subject to government approval.

United’s new A321XLR aircraft will service several of the new European routes, featuring United Polaris suites with privacy doors, free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, and new Economy Plus seating with an open middle seat, a configuration the airline says no other major US carrier currently offers. The aircraft begins domestic flying in September 2026 before transitioning to international routes from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin on 1 December 2026.

For agents selling long-haul US and transatlantic connections, the expanded network gives access to a broader spread of secondary European and Asian gateways not currently served nonstop by other US carriers, alongside continued growth on established transpacific and transatlantic corridors relevant to Australian travellers connecting through US hubs.
