Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand have officially reunited, launching a new codeshare agreement that enhances travel options for passengers crossing the Tasman.
From 9 December 2024, Virgin Australia customers can book flights operated by Air New Zealand with a Virgin Australia (VA) flight number, offering seamless access to Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, in addition to Virgin Australia’s existing services to Queenstown.
Benefits for Virgin Australia travellers
The partnership provides a host of benefits for Virgin Australia passengers and Velocity Frequent Flyer members on over 300 weekly trans-Tasman services. Travellers booking Virgin Australia flights operated by Air New Zealand can enjoy:
- earning Velocity Points and Status Credits
- lounge access for Velocity Gold and Platinum members
- seamless connections with baggage transfer and through boarding passes
- Velocity Gold and Platinum benefits, including an extra checked bag (up to 23kg), priority check-in, and priority boarding
- exclusive discounts and perks for Virgin Australia Business Flyers and corporate customers

The codeshare covers key routes from major Australian cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth to New Zealand destinations, with seasonal options from Sunshine Coast, Cairns, and Hobart to Auckland.
