Residents of Victoria and South Australia have woken up this morning to the end of lockdown and a number of freedoms restored. However, while Greater Sydney continues to see growing numbers of community transmission, despite now being in its 5th week of lockdown, Victoria is being a little cautious. One of the new post-lockdown rules remains – no household visits and a roll back of its previous border ‘bubble’ with Wagga Wagga, Hay, Lockhart, and Murrumbidgee, effective midnight last night.
In Sydney, cases of community transmission, despite record testing of several days over 90,000 tests per day, show no sign of receding. Greater Sydney residents are preparing themselves for more bad news today, when the NSW Premier is expected to unveil what the next few weeks will look like.
Media reports overnight suggest Greater Sydney, by and large, can anticipate being in lockdown until at least 27 August. The NSW Government has assured residents that further financial support will be put in place if the lockdown is extended beyond its original end date of 31 July.
