Last Thursday, Visit USA Australia presented its 2019 Mid-Year Review to over 50 members of the US travel industry gathered at the new The Terrace on The Domain in the Royal Botanical Gardens yesterday afternoon.
The Review* showed that Australian travellers still consider the USA a desirable destination, with over 1.36 million Aussies travelling to the US in 2018, with an annual spend of USD 8.6 billion. Australians are the 11th largest inbound market for the US, with an average length of stay of 19.3 nights.
On average, Australians visit two states and three cities. Los Angeles (45.9%), Honolulu (21.3%) and San Francisco (9%) come in as the top three ports of entry for 2018, with Los Angeles (31.2%), Oahu (23.9%) and New York City (22.3%) as the most visited cities.
The vast majority of Australian visitors to the US travel for leisure (87%), on average planning their trip 159 days in advance.
Next up for Visit USA is the much-anticipated Visit USA Expos, which will be held in February 2020. Registration is scheduled to open in December 2019 for retail travel agents at visitusa.org.au
