Wendy Wu Tours has launched a new 14-day escorted tour through Japan’s northernmost island, Hokkaido, as demand continues to grow for regional and repeat travel experiences beyond the country’s major cities.
The new Northern Japan: Secrets of Hokkaido itinerary expands the operator’s Japan portfolio, targeting travellers seeking slower-paced, immersive journeys through lesser-known destinations.
Recent Australian Bureau of Statistics data cited by Wendy Wu Tours shows travel to Japan has increased 6.2 per cent compared with February 2025, while the company’s own consumer research found Japan remains the most sought-after destination among Australian travellers.
Regional Japan takes centre stage
The 14-day Go Beyond itinerary is priced from $12,090 per person, based on Early Bird pricing, and includes visits to Furano, Daisetsuzan National Park and the Shiretoko Peninsula.
Experiences include meeting the Indigenous Ainu people, cruising Lake Akan, spotting brown bears in Shiretoko National Park, travelling by cable car to Mount Asahidake, visiting a dairy farm and sampling regional cuisine, including Sapporo’s signature miso ramen.
Wendy Wu Tours said the new itinerary responds to increasing demand from Australians returning to Japan for a second or subsequent visit and looking to explore beyond the country’s best-known destinations.
Travellers can also save up to $4,000 per person on selected 2027 and 2028 departures through the company’s Early Bird campaign, with its Best Price Promise applying to eligible bookings.
