A FiFo worker from the Granites mine in the Northern Territory, who has since tested positive for COVID-19, spent several hours at Alice Springs airport on 25 June, having left the Tanami Desert mine to return home to Adelaide.
Erring on the side of caution, Northern Territory Chief Minister, Michael Gunner, said that while it was unlikely the man was highly infectious while at the airport, Alice Springs would lockdown for 72 hours. Health authorities said the man had developed COVID symptoms while isolating in Adelaide, and four of his household contacts had also tested positive.
The NT government has also listed the airport cafe as a high-risk exposure site and the airport departure/arrival area as a low-risk site.
The lockdown began at 1:00pm yesterday and covers all Alice Springs town council boundaries, including town camps.
