Cruise Whitsundays has announced the continuation of its long-standing partnership with Hamilton Island, signing a ten-year agreement that cements its role as the premier provider of resort connections and island transfers through 2034.
This partnership, first established in 2012, remains central to the Whitsundays tourism and transport network, supporting the region’s vibrant tourism industry.
Commitment to the Region and Sustainability
Sture Myrmell, Chief Operating Officer of Journey Beyond, emphasised the importance of the collaboration in bolstering the region’s vitality. “Cruise Whitsundays offers convenient departures from Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, providing increased flexibility and frequency for visitors to explore the breathtaking Whitsundays. Over the next four years, we will invest $30 million into our fleet and facilities to enhance guest experiences and drive sustainable growth for the region.”
Hamilton Island’s Chief Commercial Officer, David Boyd, highlighted the shared vision for exceptional guest experiences. “Our partnership reflects our commitment to showcasing the Whitsundays, Queensland’s premier tourist destination, and the heart of the World-Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. Cruise Whitsundays’ outstanding service ensures visitors enjoy unforgettable experiences in this remarkable environment.”
Beyond Tourism: Supporting the Community
Cruise Whitsundays transports over 700,000 passengers annually, connecting Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island Marina, Hamilton Island Airport, Daydream Island, and Whitsunday Coast Airport in Proserpine. While providing tourists access to iconic destinations like Whitehaven Beach and the Reefworld Pontoon, the service also supports the local community.
General Manager Renee Branton-Brown highlighted the essential role the service plays for residents. “In addition to holidaymakers, we facilitate daily commutes for island employees, contractors, and even school children travelling to mainland schools. Our service is integral to the viability of the islands and accessibility for residents.”
Award-Winning Experiences
This announcement follows Cruise Whitsundays’ recent wins at the 2024 Whitsunday Tourism Awards, where it claimed Gold in the Tourist Attraction and Unique Accommodation categories. The Reefworld Pontoon, a standout for Great Barrier Reef tours, and the unique Reefstays experience, including Reefsleep and Reefsuites, showcase the company’s dedication to immersive and unforgettable experiences. These wins secured the company’s induction into the Hall of Fame for Unique Accommodation.
