The Hari Hong Kong’s “Live Like a Local” experience invites travellers to explore the vibrant Wan Chai district with its newly launched audio walking guide.
Uncover hidden gems in Wan Chai
The Hari Neighbourhood Guide Audio Tour, available through an easy-to-use app, combines an interactive map with narrations about seven unique locations near the hotel on Lockhart Road. From historic tenement blocks turned creative hubs to bustling markets full of colour and sound, the guide showcases the hidden treasures of Wan Chai.
Highlights include:
- A Michelin-recognised family-run eatery.
- An art gallery in a converted 1970s rooftop clubhouse.
- Sampan dining and the daily firing of an iconic cannon.
- “Villain Hitting,” a traditional Chinese folk ritual.
Once a small fishing village, Wan Chai has grown into a lively hub of cultural and commercial activity. Its unique mix of Eastern and Western influences, historic landmarks, and vibrant street markets makes it a standout destination.
A personal perspective on Wan Chai
Dr Aron Harilela, founder of The Hari Hong Kong and chairman of Harilela Hotels, adds a personal touch to the guide by sharing his memories of Wan Chai. His reflections highlight the district’s history and eccentricities, and his passion for art is evident throughout the hotel with rotating exhibitions.
“By diving beneath Wan Chai’s surface, our audio walking guide provides a layered, cultured and singular viewpoint of our neighbourhood and its peculiarities,” Dr Harilela said.
