Intrepid Travel appoints Simon Mckearney as NZ GM

Intrepid Travel has appointed Simon Mckearney as its new Country General Manager for New Zealand, effective 19 May 2025. This move marks a significant step in Intrepid’s strategy to expand its presence in New Zealand, transitioning from an inbound tour operator to a fully integrated travel business catering to both inbound and outbound travellers.

Simon Mckearney brings over two decades of senior experience in the New Zealand travel sector. Based in Auckland, he will lead Intrepid’s operations with a focus on growth, customer engagement, and strengthening partnerships across the country.

Intrepid Travel’s Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, Brett Mitchell, highlighted the importance of this appointment, stating that New Zealand is a market with significant potential and unique opportunities. He emphasized the company’s commitment to investing in local leadership and building stronger relationships with customers, suppliers, and communities.

In 2024, Intrepid welcomed a record number of international travellers to New Zealand, with top-selling trips including the nine-day South Island Express and the 18-day Premium New Zealand Journey. With the outbound market now in focus, Intrepid aims to become one of the top three travel brands in New Zealand, introducing new roles across sales, marketing, and partnerships to better serve its customers and trade network.
