On Foot Holidays has launched an exciting new seven-night hiking route through the Gorges du Tarn, one of Europe’s largest canyons. Located in the stunning Cévennes region of southern France, this ‘slow travel’ adventure combines breathtaking landscapes, authentic cultural experiences, and eco-friendly travel.
Highlights of the new Gorges du Tarn walking holiday
The new itinerary, available in April, May, June, September, and October, takes walkers on a scenic journey through the rugged beauty of the Tarn River gorge. Highlights include:
- Distance: 12–25 km per day, graded medium-hard in effort
- Landscapes: Towering cliff walls up to 600 metres high, turquoise waters of the Tarn River, and charming stone hamlets
- Route: Starting from Mas de la Barque, the trail winds through villages such as Pont de Montvert, Cocures, Ispagnac, St Chely, La Malene, Les Vignes, and Le Rozier
Luggage is transferred between accommodations daily, so hikers carry only a day pack, allowing for a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Cultural immersion meets sustainable travel
The walk is low in carbon footprint and high in cultural immersion, with stays in family-run B&Bs, inns, and hotels that showcase the best of French hospitality. Along the way, hikers can savour traditional French cuisine, regional wines, and locally sourced picnic lunches.
The Gorges du Tarn route has been thoughtfully curated to provide both adventure and comfort. Local insights, detailed maps, and directions ensure a seamless experience for independent hikers.
